Pool & Spa Inspections

Pool Safety: 6 Things an Inspector Will Look For

There’s nothing better than summer in Florida, with the endless sunshine and fun in the water. A swimming pool is almost a necessary addition to any home, cooling you off from the intense sun while providing constant entertainment for your family. However, owning a pool involves significant responsibilities, and proper safety measures must be taken. In this article, Evolve Property Inspections will take a closer look at pool inspections and address six things pool inspectors will look for to ensure the safety of your pool.

1. Electrical Systems

At your pool inspection, we will check your pool's electrical system to ensure there is no issue with faulty wiring and that nearby electrical outlets are equipped with GFCIs to protect against shock. We will also check the lights, pumps, and motors.

2. Plumbing Components

Our inspectors will assess all of the plumbing components of your pool to make sure they are functioning correctly. We will be alert for any signs of leaks, damaged water lines, faulty drain covers, and poor drainage. The filters and filtration system will be evaluated as well.

3. Safety Barriers

All of the safety features and barriers should work effectively to ensure the safe use of your pool. The inspector will ensure that ladders and railings are properly attached, that steps and diving boards are safe, and that there are no other visible safety issues.

4. Pool Heating System

At your comprehensive pool inspection, the inspector will evaluate both the solar heating system and the pool heater. These need to be functioning correctly and safely.

5. Pool Deck and Surrounding Area

Your pool deck should be made of non-slip materials to prevent any falls. The inspector will check for any improper settlement of the pool deck that would make the ground uneven and result in a fall hazard.

6. Adjoining Structures

During your comprehensive pool inspection, a pool inspector will evaluate any adjoining structures to your pool or spa. There should be no signs of structural damage or weakness that would compromise the integrity of these structures.
